Last night - January 14, 2012 - Carder finally rolled from his back to his tummy. He has been turning on his side and being soooooo close to rolling over that I knew he could do it and just wasn't doing it. All he had to do was just tip his hip a fraction of an inch further and he would be there. He has been meeting other milestones and hates tummy time, so I wasn't too concerned that he wasn't meeting this milestone yet - but I was still exuberant when finally tipped that hip over.
Carder is 7 months old now and I am working on his 7 month post, and I have several other posts rolling around my head - but I am sick AGAIN and I just haven't had the time or the energy to do it yet. Hopefully soon...
And I don't regret the rain, Or the nights I felt the pain, Or the tears I had to cry some of those times along the way. Every road I had to take, every time my heart would break...It was just something that I had to get through, to get me to you.

7 Months Old
Carder,
At 7 Months Old, you are growing like a weed!
Developmentally you are growing by leaps and bounds. One day, you aren't sitting by yourself and the next day you do it for a few seconds and then before I even knew it, there you were - sitting for long stretches all by yourself. I don't even know what date to put as the first time you sat because it happened so gradually, but also so quickly!
This month you have really been blossoming - I am sure that it has to do with your new ability to sit - but you now will play independently with your toys for a good stretch of time. This has enabled you to start developing favorites. You love to play with the toys in your toy bin, but I think you like to play in the bin just as much!
Some of your favorite toys include your telephone from your Grandmama, your "Crinkle Bear" from you Aunt Karina, Tigger, Haba Rings...
It is such a joy watching you grow!

But your absolute FAVORITE toy - Elephant. We had him on your changing table and used him to calm you down after suctioning your nose. But you fell in love with him. And now, every time we put you on the changing pad, you turn to the side and reach for him. Most of the time you grab him and then it is a production keeping him out of whatever happens to be in your diaper.
It is such a joy watching you grow!

I Shouldn't Feel This Way
We have several friendly acquaintances at our Church with small children. One such couple has a daughter that is 11 months old. This past Sunday, I found out that they are expecting baby #2 and are 13 weeks along.
Since Carder has been born, this is the first time we have been "lapped" by someone we know.
I felt...
JEALOUS.
RESENTFUL.
PAIN.
For a moment, it was almost as if I was back in the thick of TTC with Infertility blocking our way.
It was the first time since we found out we were expecting Carder that I felt this way.
(OK, that's not entirely true. The first time was when the wife of another Church couple w/2 children where husband works on a boat in the ocean and is gone 50% of the year made a statement that there WOULD BE MORE and I thought "must be nice..." but it just wasn't full fledged pain, just the jealousy part)
It was the first time that I felt that sting - the slap in the face that knocks the wind out of you. I wasn't expecting to feel that way. I thought that perhaps actually having a baby in my arms would have protected me from the pain of just how easy it can be for other people. I suppose it has - but just not like I thought it would have. Instead of it being a spinal block, it made the pain tolerable. I didn't go home and cry about it like the childless infertile that I once was would have - I just had to breathe through the pain a bit.
I guess that what I took away from this was that I will always have scars from our journey through infertility. I will always remember what it felt like. I will always feel the stabbing pain of pregnancy announcements (at least to some extent). But at least now I can deal with the pain without crying myself to sleep or downing a bottle or two of wine - because I looked into the eyes of my beautiful baby boy, kissed him on top of his little head, told myself that he was worth every heart ache I had waiting for him, and said a little prayer of thanks that we were no longer waiting.
